Monday’s transfer rumor roundup: $200m for Neymar; Remy leaving Chelsea

Manchester United are prepared to pay the $205-million buyout clause in Neymar’s Barcelona contract in order to sign the 23-year-old Brazilian superstar, according to French newspaper Le 10 Sport. Then again, a French publication might not be the best source regarding a club in England and a Brazilian player who currently lives in Spain.
However, it’s Jan. 4, which means every paper in the world claims to know about every deal that’s going down. This is a roundup of biggest rumors of the day — most, if not all, of them less farfetched than the above pipe dream. Sorry, Man United fans.
The Express is reporting Crystal Palace have made a move for backup Chelsea striker Loic Remy, with Palace manager Alan Pardew keen to reunite with the 29-year-old striker. Remy played under Pardew during his season-long loan to Newcastle United in 2013-14. The reported price? Palace would like to pay $9 million, but Chelsea want $15 million. Stats show Remy has the best minutes-per-goal ratio of any Premier League player this season.
Tottenham Hotspur are hoping to once again, as they did with Dele Alli last year, unearth a gem from the lower leagues of English football. Only this time, they’re going way, way, way lower — reportedly to the National League South, the sixth tier in England, for Ebbsfleet United attacker Shilow Tracey. Tracey reportedly impressed during a trial with Tottenham earlier this year, and Spurs have come out on top in the battle to sign the 17-year-old midfielder.
For the third- or fourth-straight transfer window, “Where Will Charlie Austin End Up?” is one of the British press’s favorites games to play. Today, it’s Newcastle, who will be without striker Papiss Cisse for up to three months, according to the Daily Mail. Austin’s contract with Queens Park Rangers expires this summer.
Kolo Toure, whose Liverpool contract expires at the end of the current season, is a target of Lazio. The Serie A side has seen its defense dismantled by injuries this season and will move for Toure during the January window, according to the Express.
